Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes may not own his most valuable rookie card, but he apparently owns plenty of others.

Mahomes was asked whether or not he has any of his own rookie cards during Super Bowl Opening Night and responded with an answer many hobbyists would be happy to hear.

“I wish I had the $4 million ones,” Mahomes said. “But no, I do collect some of the cards. I’m not collecting the 1/1s or the 1/10s or whatever they are. But if I can get my hands on some, I’ll definitely grab them and try to keep up with them.

“I’ve always kept cards, even when I was young — baseball cards and stuff like that. So it definitely is cool to be on one.”

The original question referenced a $4 million sale from 2021 — that record-breaking private sale was brokered by PWCC for a 2017 National Treasures NFL Shield 1/1 RPA.

Years later, the Mahomes 1/1 is still the most expensive football card ever sold after eclipsing a $3.1 million sale for a Tom Brady 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Rookie Ticket Autograph.

One of the most popular players in the sports card hobby, Mahomes is also one of the most expensive.

Even beyond ultra high-end products like National Treasures, flagship rookies for Mahomes are some of the more expensive cards in the hobby.

According to Market Movers, Mahomes’ 2017 Prizm Silver PSA 10 has recently sold for $4,250 multiple times. Other key rookies like his 2017 Optic Base PSA 10 and 2017 Donruss Base PSA 10 have also sold for $1,110 and $880, respectively.
