Topps and Fanatics Collectibles officially announced Tuesday afternoon that the release of the First Card designation didn’t go as planned.

Included in 2024 Topps Series 1 Baseball, the all-new First Card marker was meant to highlight the first card printed for each of the base set’s 350 cards.

Stamped with a 1/1 marker, each card was also meant to carry an additional "First Card" designation on the front. According to Topps, the First Cards carry the stamp, but not the clear designation.

“We are aware that Topps Series 1 Baseball First Cards were inadvertently released without the “First Card” designation,” Topps wrote in the statement. “These cards are identifiable by the 1/1 numbering in the lower right-hand corner on the back of the card.”

According to the notice, collectors in possession of any First Card can file a claim to have the card stamped. Holders will also receive Topps credit.

Originally meant to be part of several Series 1 Easter eggs, the lack of the First Card designation left some collectors confused by the 1/1 stamping.

Along with the First Card designations, Easter eggs from Topps’ flagship baseball product have included cameos from comedian Kevin Hart, Independence Day parallels numbered out 76 and True Photo cards that feature a full-bleed design.
